I love these shots from Melrose. They bring back a lot of memories! My grandparents used to live right around the corner, on North Stanley – in the land of cake-like stucco houses & giant mutant roses. Whenever I would visit them as a teenager, wandering around Melrose enjoying forbidden cloves and lusting after all the super-goth fashions was my respite from any good-grandchild doldrums I imagined myself suffering.
I would smoke and eat ice cream at that Double Rainbow place and people watch. Strange lonely magic times.

Beth, Camden is far more relevant and diverse, and just generally cooler, but Melrose is the LA equivalent, yes!

Wow… So Melrose is just like Camden, London then? The uber punks, romantic goths and utterly alternative folk have reduced, as have so many stores, but it still lives on in a smaller spark in amongst the copy-and-paste generic stores and Starbucks. It was great back when and decent now and I still love it.

I love these rapid, fast firing blips of posts. I’ve been over in CA twice and have never been on Melrose. Interesting.

It is funny how things end up though. I love when we become the things we once longed for, without even really trying.

Your first trip to Retail Slut reminds me of going to see local bands as a teen and thinking all the 20-something girls looked so cool. Then when I reached my 20′s I realized I had turned into those girls without even trying. Pretty amazing.
