In My Ear: the myspace perv-out sessions

January 19th, 2009 · 16 Comments · Biorequiem

Courtney and I made a video tribute to the Match.com ads polluting already-filthy-with-ads Myspace. For the uninitiated, these ads feature faux video chattin’ men who seem to peer at you from the screen and attempt seduction. The little sign says “In my ear”, hence the title.

I hesitate to post an example of these ads here but there is a screenshot under the cut, for those who have never seen one of these things. Believe me when I say they are much, much more terrifying in motion.

You guys are a TRIP ;)

What does that note at the end say? Can’t quite see it with the YouTube artifacts vs. my screen resolution . . .

    Heeee! Love the faux-skeevy faces!

Those ads freak me the hell out. Love the video, it’s hilarious.

So annoyed by those ads. The ones for guys, of girls looking giggle and chatty, are no less freaky.

haha! you girls are hilarious!!! i hate those ads too, they’re really annoying.
just a question : what’s the music in the video? it sounds quite like the kind of soundtrack David Lynch could use for one of his movies…

HAHAHAHHA….brilliant. Both of you nailed it and though far more entertaining…the spirit of the creepiness is captured fully.

    Also…nice jacket!

Reminds me — I’m out of nutella.

You two are either insane or simply bored/drunk out of your minds. Either way is great entertainment for me. Nice ladies.

If Zoetica was actually in one of those ads, match.com would have as much of my money as they wanted right that second, because I would be all WHERE IS THE HOT BLUE-HAIRED GIRL I WANT TO HAVE TEN MILLION OF HER BABIES.

I hate those ads. They are an excellent example of the Uncanny Valley, but starring real people.

I never have to see ads thanks to AdBlocker, but that doesn’t mean that I didn’t enjoy this video. :)

So funny! About a year ago, I remember going onto my Myspace and recognizing a friend of mine in one of these ads. It was a little weird and I reluctantly clicked on it to hear what he was saying…something cheesy about skateboarding. I called him up – apparently they’d done about five ads in his apartment. He was only supposed to be lighting the thing, but wound up being shoved in front of the camera.

@essylt – it is David Lynch (!), singing in soundtrack to Inland Empire

I guess it’s sort of a relief to know that there is a version of these for women. I had no idea. I wouldn’t think it would have worked on girls, but, yeah… guys get these to. It never crossed my mind that they would have made a girls version. I’ve never even been kinda tempted to click on them, but I guess it must work for some people.

    Weird, weird world.
