There are so, so many new questions in my Formspring inbox. While I’m looking forward to satisfying everyone’s curiosity soon, a particular question popped up few times, presumably from different sources, and made an appearance in yesterday’s comments:
Are you married to Ales? / Are you and Ales getting married, or what? / Are you engaged?! / Did you get married, or engaged? / You are to have the marry?
I didn’t accidentally post photos of incriminating wedding gifts by accident – have been meaning to break the news sometime this month, and this is a good place to leave off on, before my no-blog week begins. So – Yes. And Yes. Also, Yes. To tell you the truth, we got married last June, in a microscopic civil ceremony.

Pictures by Andrew Yoon, he also took these of the post-wedding mini-feast.
Marriage today is an odd thing. It will grant you joint health insurance [haay!], but does it really mean anything beyond a handful of legal benefits and playing house? I think it can. Ales and I knew we wanted to spend our lives together the moment we saw each other in Paris. To do that, we needed to get married, because he’s a Czech citizen. Would we have gotten married if circumstance was different? Mhmmm. But why? Is a partnership invalidated without some form of commitment ceremony? Of course not. I am of the opinion that people can happily spend lifetimes together without anything of the sort. It’s just that we wanted to do it. Because a ceremony is nothing less than a missive to the universe saying, “I want this, always.”
Always,

This made my heart feel all melty, Zo… You two are so sweet. Many felicitations and blessings to you both – mazel tov!
Congrats and all the best.
Angel, you have an incredible way of sending massive warm fuzzies all the way across the vastness of the internets. Thank you!
And once again without any doubt we can say: Paris – the city of looove))))
Ahh so it’s official! Congratulations you two!
AWWWWWWWW — congratulations! Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness :D
(Not that I wouldn’t have been anyway, but evenmoreso!)
*mwah!*
– A ^__^
this is perhaps the cutest post ever.
congratulations, i did have a sneaky suspicion when i last saw you, you guys are awesome together. <3
Well then a belated congrats to the two of you!
A very late congratz but you two make a very lovely couple <3
Have another belated (but heartfelt) congratulations from an internet stranger!
Mrreeeeeeeem! meep meep! *hoppy hoppy*
I just got a little verklempt reading that…
awwww <3
This is wonderful news, however belated… you are a stunning couple.
Our wedding last year was a tiny one, just seven guests present, and we took off to Venice. Amusingly some people have assumed this was a ‘secret’ wedding – it never was, we just didn’t want certain family members attending, or a big fuss being made.
It’s really nice to see marriage being described in such a positive and affirmative way – what you said is exactly how I feel about tying the knot. I have got a lot of crap in the past couple of years for ‘buying into the institution’ and not wanting to ‘keep my options open,’ relationship-wise. To everyone I know, marriage is a dirty word, which I find baffling.
I had no idea. I am so happy for you, dear!
I feel my heart melting… I also think you are married to one of the cutest men alive.
many congrats to you both!
You guys are adorable together. Congratulations, Miss Zo!
Auch.
But mostly congratulations.
Might chew on his shoes.
Ales is extremely cute, and you look like a fabulous couple. I had a very private marriage ceremony, too. I don’t think anyone knows that I’m married in real life except my parents and a couple of people I’m not that close to.
awesome guys! :)
And many grand congratulations to you both!
Granted I guessed as much but I figured sooner or later you’d be public about it. You two are a fine pair of misfits and I can think of no better match.
May there be many happy years ahead for you both!
You guys are amazing together, and from the looks of it, you make each other deliriously happy. My boy just proposed to me after 8 months. It’s a lovely feeling to want to make that commitment.
awwwww das ist zoooo cute.
Congrats!
uhu!
I’m so happy for you!!
congrats!! :)
congratulations..!
Awwww
Hope you have all the happiness marrage has brought to me!
I’ve struggled with the feminist view of marriage, my own thoughts, and the traditional ideas. But what you’ve said couldn’t have put it any better. That’s so perfect; thank you for letting your adoring public share in your happiness.
PS – I just married my superman last June, too. <3
I’ve been reading your blog for a long time, thought I’d break the silence to congratulate you both :)
congrads oh wow that’s awesome. you really deserve it and i wish you both the best
Congratulations!!
Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, for your beautiful wishes.
Congratulations, on your marriage and your happiness!
Lovely photos, you’re both adorable and obviously in love.
Mazel Tov!
Guys, I’m getting choked up over here. Thank you for all the wonderful wishes!
Ah, suspicions=confirmed! What cute images!
I, too, like so many others here, have to approve of all sentiments involved. I’m a firm believer that the focus should be on the super-personal marriage relationship, not the manufactured noise of the wedding.
Congratulations to you both! My husband and I eloped in August and it took us quite a while to share the news. When we got engaged, I quickly got sick of everyone putting in their two cents about what our wedding should be like, things we HAD to do. But presents & bridesmaids, etc. were not what was important to us. Solidly committing to the universe, as you said, and to eachother that this was it, that we were partners until the end of our time. :) Yay, eloping! Wish you two the best of luck & mucho happiness!!
Heartfelt congratulations, Zo. The two of you have my best wishes in all of your future endeavors.
Oh, the “missive to the universe” part was wonderfully put.
This makes me so happy for you, yay! All the best to you guys, you know?
I just recently found your blog via Gala Darling, and I absolutely love it! Congrats. Your sweetheart is an adorable one, and you two complement each other perfectly!
you said it so perfectly…
“I want this, always.”
I’m SO SO happy for you both <3
Congratulations!
Lordy, starting welling up. Hope you two crazy kids are awesome to each other until the end of time.
Awesome! Congratulations!
I feel the same way about marriage. ;)
yaaaay, congratulations!?
uhmm that question mark supposed to be a heart symbol, but it seems it won’t work on this site :( so imagine a little heart there ;) <3
Huge congrats, Zo! You and Ales seem to have been really happy for a long time now, so this came as no surprise to me lol. I’m so glad to see this happy ending, or I guess I should say, happy beginning. :)
wow, this is big surprise for me..
ales maybe remember me from prague, he was my flatmate..
all the best for you Z and you A!!
keep it up*

[...] wondrous Miss Zoetica Ebb has finally announced it – she married the love of her life last [...]
“You are to have the marry?”
BEST.
Such a friggin’ adorable picture there, that of your shiny black heel raised next to his P.F. Flyers. (Have I correct? They look so, yes?)
I’m givin’ ditto on the sentiment one ‘Rabbit’ posted above:
You know, the bit about “Happy Beginning”?
Yeah, that’s it…
Though for now, I’m gonna skedittle outta here.
I’m “having emotions,” as the Humanfolk say.
(“What is this? Are we having emotions over here? Everybody HALT EVERYTHING:
Clint is having emotions. Isn’t that right, you little pansy?”)
& so goes one of countless scripts in my mind…
:: mmm-kay, sigh ::
awwww, so cute! :D
belated congrats!
Congrats! I have been following you for…oh, must be 8 years now. I’ve seen you getting happier and happier, and I hope this isn’t yet the peak. He is gorgeous. Enjoy. ;)
