Atheism is NOT SAD.

December 2nd, 2006 · 11 Comments · Biorequiem

This is my friend Micki Krimmel[ of mickipedia.com]
while i love video, and interesting vlogging, I am NOT a fan of videoblog talking, usually. I make this known.

This is the only talking videoblog that i absolutely love.

It conveys my views perfectly, touches on some experiences i have had, as an atheist, and hearing/seeing Micki speak about it with simple conviction and clarity makes me very happy.

Truer words have never been spoken, for those with “faith” to think that our lives are empty without faith is both patronising and insulting.

My only slight nitpick with this is that without further explanation on her part, I’m inclined to say she’s using the word ‘athiest’ incorrectly. She seems to be more of an agnostic bent, as there’s no active denial of any outside force, only a refusal to base her life around it.

I always get nitpicky about those two terms.

    Here here.
When trying to convey to religious people what it means to me to be an atheist, I usually refer them to the Spinoza God. It’s not that everything to me is sacrilegious or “secular” (an important dichotomy in Judaism), rather, it’s that everything to me is “sacred”, in a sense.
I still see wonder in the existence of the world, I have, on occasion, a sense of absolute safety, and on other occasions a sense of guilt. I just perceive the source of these experiences as being internal, coherent with a naturalistic worldview, rather than transcendental and counter-intuitive in nature.

hey i just TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU, you spoke my mind! we atheists are not sad, dont feel sad for us! ( i found it kinda disrespectful, too) and i believe that those ppl who need religion are weak on the inside somewhat.

Have we not learned nothng from Simple Plan “With their big fake smiles and stupid lies
While deep inside you’re bleeding”- (welcome to my life ) or how about Jimmy Eat World “This sweetness will not be concerned with me. Whoaaaaaaaaaa” and as Richard Dawkins said “I am an Athorist (does not believe in Thor) so in conclusion atheist is like being baptist, catholic, buddhist, etc so instead if u want to sound imperical say ‘i dont know’/i dont care’ what u really think instead of im this or that label

    Hello Micki,
I stumbled upon your post and would like to comment. Your sincerity is genuine. Please remember that as your beliefs are strong, so is the faith of us who do believe in God. And just as you pointed out that the existence of God has not been proven, neither has it been disproven. So, whether you believe it or not, God still loves you!

  • Shay

God, that’s so pretentious. Gah. The existence of invisible flying butt-monkeys living on the dark side of the moon hasn’t been disproven either, do the monkeys love us too..?

    let me drop some bombs

“im agnostic to religion like im agnostic to fairies and pink unicorns” – sir richard dawkins

“im not atheist because im dont knowwhat is suppossed to be belived”- noam chomsky, linguist

” christians are atheist”- nero, roman tyrant

in short if one word is a lie all words are lies and i quote again simple plan, welcome to my world “fake smiles and stupid lies” which aptly describes the video blog above, sing what must be sung

Atheism sad? well no more than being of a religious bent. In fact the two have much in common, one being as dogmatic as the other. It’s as hard to prove the non existence of God(s) as it is to prove the(ir) existence.
